Thesis Statement

Broadridge’s wide economic moat along with increased guidance directly counteract the stocks -38.77% YTD drop. As the leading proxy and interim services provider for brokers and dealers nationwide, BR maintains predictable recurring revenue that is supported by a wide moat primarily through switching costs. BR has faced short term margin pressures, primarily due to postage drag costs that compress margins, and faces uncertainty revolving around organic growth prospects and revenue mix shifts. The company is financially sound, with BR generated $4.8 billion in fee revenue for FY25, 90% of which was classified as recurring. BR operates at moderate leverage, with gross debt/adjusted EBITDA at about 1.9 times earnings, appropriate given the company's resilient business model. Share repurchases coupled with margin recovery and resilience to short-term macroeconomic noise will give the broader market more confidence in the health of the company's finances.

Market Dislocation

Despite upward guidance in Q3 2026, the stock has tumbled on fears of short-term margin compression due to elevated distribution revenue and higher float income. These elevated expenses came from nonrecurring expenditures, such as postage rate increases and higher interest rates. The stock is down -38.77% YTD, a drop despite increased guidance and no change in the economic moats of the company or competitive position. Macroeconomic fears have likely extrapolated short-term margin compressions, creating noise around the stock that relies heavily on revenue from multi-year contracts with financial institutions that are highly sensitive to macroeconomic noise. Management also lowered its full-year closed sales guidance to $240 million–$290 million (down from its previous target of $290 million–$330 million), guidance that represents the cyclical nature of the business model and not structural changes internally. The market is pricing BR as a struggling company that is struggling to maintain its competitive edge, rather than the wide-moat proxy and interim communication monolith that it is.

Valuation

For quarter 3 2026 compared to quarter 3 2025, BR saw an 8% increase in total revenues, along with an increase of 14% in net earnings. While operating income margin decreased to

18.4%, compared to 19.0% for the prior year period, this was due to combination of higher

distribution revenue and higher float income. BR operates with a 6.04x PB ratio compared to a five year average of 9.56x. Revenue grew 8.19%, the strongest increase since Q2 2024, and Adjusted Earnings per share growth (Non-GAAP) was raised slightly to 10-12% from 9-12%. Furthermore, EV/EBITDA sits at 11.42x, compared to a five year average of 18.29x.

Business Quality

BR is a wide-moat company that maintains competitive advantages revolving around switching costs and its large scale. Broadridge processes around 80% of all outstanding shares for proxy voting in the United States, maintains high switching costs and strong recurring revenue, and possesses scaled digital blockchain infrastructure. As of March 2026, BR saw 6% Recurring revenue growth constant currency and 11% Adjusted EPS growth, showing efficiencies from the increased move toward digitizing and modernizing wealth management. BR is a company that will see strong long-term growth that is supported by its wide economic moats. ROE remains strong at 38.62%, along with ROCE at 18.20%, both above recent historical averages. While the company faces margin compress issues that are extrapolated by mix shifts and trade uncertainty, the core strengths of the company remain intact, pointing to a meaningfully undervalued stock.

Sell Triggers

Two consecutive quarters of organic growth declines, coupled with gross margins falling below 28% or further operating income margin decreases will trigger a sell. BR is assigned a fair value rating of $210, representing around a 42% upside from the current price.
